According to statistics, about 51% of Americans find job satisfaction a core part of their lives. And yet, a whopping 47% of the workforce only consider their jobs as their means of making money and not as a way to fulfill themselves.
In other words, a lot of people are unhappy with their occupations. And if you’re one of the 47% who is not happy with your current career path, it’s time to find out what you really want to do in life and start following your passion!
In today’s blog post, I’m going to share my tips on how to find your passion and cultivate it so you can enjoy work to the point that you almost feel like you’re not working at all.
But before we dive deep into my tips, let’s cover a few key points first to give you a better understanding of how passions work and how you can make the most out of the exercise in this article.
Here are the essential things you need to remember:
1. You can be multi-passionate.
Worried that you might have too many passions?
Don’t worry. Humans, as we all are, we tend to have multiple interests – and it’s perfectly normal!
And here’s the good news: you don’t have to choose one thing over the other either – because these passions of yours ultimately make up who you are at your core.
2. Your passions can evolve as your life evolves.
Your passions can change as your life changes. For example, you may have been interested in sports or music when you were younger. But now that you’ve grown older, you may be more interested in learning new things or traveling the world.
So, while you may be passionate about something now, chances are, you’ll become more interested in something else down the road – and that’s perfectly fine! It’s all a part of your journey in life.
How to Find Your Passion in 5 Steps
Now that we know what passions are, let’s move on to finding them. Here are a few steps you can take to help you identify your passions:
1. List down the activities that you do on a daily basis.
2. Identify the activities that meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Activities that energize you;
- Activities that excite you; and
- Activities that engage you.
3. Take a look at the list you wrote in Step 2, and identify the activities that put you in a state of flow.
Note:
In positive psychology, a state of flow is a mental state wherein an individual is fully immersed in a particular activity, so much so that the person forgets about time. The experience of flow is often described as being “in the zone,” “being one with the task at hand,” or “being completely absorbed in what you are doing.”
4. Choose the activities that come incredibly easy to you.
5. Finally, select the activities that can help solve other people’s problems and try to build a business around those activities.
Final Thoughts on How to Find Your Passion
So that’s it! That’s all it takes to find your passions in life.
Remember, when a specific skill or activity comes easy to you, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it will come quickly to others as well. Many of us are too quick to dismiss these activities as unmarketable just because they’re too easy for us to fulfill.
But that’s not always the case.
The truth is, we all have different passions, skillsets, and experiences. What you enjoy doing might be a drag to some. What you hate doing might be a joy to others.
Whatever your passion is, and you strongly feel that your passion can help others solve their problems, then you could be sitting on something that you could eventually make a living from!
